NaNoWriMo 2006
Here's where I am so far:Novel Title: Working Title: Kismet Academy
Estimated length: 50,000 +
Your writing experience: How about a grand total of 4 failed NaNoWriMos. I'm thinking I'm doing good this month. I have always written, but never proffessionally. Never YA, either.
Your genre: young adult
New genre? Or old favorite?: It's my first YA attempt of any length.
Other genres of your novel: fantasy/romantic hijinx/
Gonna publish?: Probably not.
Cliches/archetypes you're including (not necessarily a bad thing!): teenage girl first love stuff. There is a best friend who will betray the MC because she wants the boy. There is a group of characters known affectionately as "the dorks"
Cliches/archetypes you're avoiding: There are no bullies at Kismet Academy. Though maybe there should be...
Theme(s)/Issue(s) discussed: The regular school drama stuff. I guess there are issues with boys taking advantage of girls. & vice versa.
What we (the readers) will learn: True love conquers all! Even if you're an inanimate object!
Main character(s): Kismet Academy (800/15 years old) Alistair Bloomingflop (15 years old)
Secondary characters: Manderly McBishopshire (15 years old) Goose Ginkleflesh (15 years old) Master Woopde (15 years old) Headmistress Holly Villavance (100+ years old.)
Protagonist(s): Kismet.
Antagonist(s): Manderly.
What does your protagonist(s) or main character(s) want most in the world?: To have a good time, really.
Setting: Kismet Academy, the school.
Is the setting static or does it shift: static
Based on a place/culture/real-world environment?: No.
Is a place/culture/real-world environment? (Which): place.
Main Conflict: Kismet, the school, gets turned into a cute teenaged girl. Does she want to be a school again or have a lifelong romance with Alistair Bloomingflop? Is Manderly really her BFF or she planning something sinister?
Sub Conflicts: -- Getting to class on time, finding a dress for the Kraken Weed Ball, PMS.
Obstacles in the journey: Nightmares, Alistair's reputation as something of a ladykiller, getting reading, writing, arithmetic and sports implemented into the school curriculum at the risk of sacrificing magic. Possibly death and ressurection.
Expected resolution(s): A nice pat happy ending for Alistair and Kismet.
Summary of plot: School turns into Girl, Girl meets Boy, Girl loses Boy because she's turned into a school again but True Love Conquers all and Girl and Boy are reunited.
Based off anything? Not really. I just came into NaNoWriMo with no plot and the book No Plot No Problem by Chris Baty. I started writing. It takes place in an only semi-magic school. magic schools are pretty common in YA. So, it may not be original. But it's just my NaNoWriMo.
Tagline (a one-sentence slogan that sums up the tone and premise of your novel): --- Magic isn't really that important.
Words Written: 17,665
Words Remaining: 32,335 (I'm 995 ahead!)
